How to enable ChatGPT to make phone calls

Let ChatGPT place real phone calls: add Tuvoz as a custom MCP server, sign in with Google once, and ask for a call in any chat. ChatGPT answers the voice agent's questions, and Tuvoz calls you when it can't.

Add Tuvoz to ChatGPT

Tuvoz is an MCP server. Add this URL to ChatGPT, then sign in with Google:

https://api.staging.tuvoz.io/mcp

The steps for ChatGPT are below. Agents read the same steps at staging.tuvoz.io/agents.

Who this is for

You use ChatGPT and want it to make calls for you: book a table, check an order, ask a question you’d rather not wait on hold for. Tuvoz connects to ChatGPT as an MCP server, so there’s nothing to install. You add one URL, sign in with Google, and ask in a chat.

Step by step

  1. Open ChatGPT’s plugins. On chatgpt.com, go to chatgpt.com/plugins, click “+”, then “Add custom MCP server”.
  2. Add Tuvoz. Name it Tuvoz and paste the server URL from the box above as the server URL. Under authentication, choose OAuth.
  3. Create it. Read the warning, click “I understand and want to continue”, then “Create as a plugin”.
  4. Install it. Find Tuvoz under your plugins and install it.
  5. Sign in. In a chat, type @Tuvoz and ask for something, like a test call. The first time, ChatGPT asks you to connect Tuvoz. Sign in with Google and approve ChatGPT on Tuvoz’s page. The first time, you’ll also verify your mobile number and confirm your legal name, which is the name the voice agent says on calls.

Then make the test call below. You’ll hear the opener and the recording question a business would hear. It’s billed like any call (at least 30 seconds) from your 15 minutes of free talk time. Free plan includes training on your calls.

How a call works in ChatGPT

  1. Ask for the call in plain words, with @Tuvoz. Attach anything useful, like a confirmation email.
  2. ChatGPT checks the number with Tuvoz and shows you the brief, the number and the voice agent’s opening line, and waits for your yes. ChatGPT also asks you to approve the call itself.
  3. While the call runs, ChatGPT checks in for news and questions.
  4. When the voice agent asks a question, ChatGPT answers from what’s in the chat, or has Tuvoz call you.
  5. At the end, ChatGPT reports the outcome and the cost, and can show you the transcript.

To follow along, open Calls in your Tuvoz dashboard.

Also works as a claude.ai connector

The same URL works in claude.ai: Settings → Connectors → “Add custom connector”. See how to enable claude.ai to make phone calls.

Your first test call

Ask ChatGPT for a test call, in your own words or with this. Tuvoz calls your own phone; the first time, it asks you to press 1 to confirm you agree to AI calls on that number, unless your Tuvoz assistant called you to verify it.

Make a Tuvoz test call to my phone.

Example prompts

  • @Tuvoz call Luigi's Trattoria at (415) 555-0142 and ask if they can seat 6 tonight at 7. If not, ask about 8.
  • @Tuvoz here's my order confirmation. Call the store at (312) 555-0177 and ask when it will ship.
  • @Tuvoz make a test call to my phone.

Limits and caveats

  • You add Tuvoz on chatgpt.com in a browser. ChatGPT shows a warning for every custom MCP server, and you confirm it to add Tuvoz.
  • On ChatGPT Business and Enterprise, workspace settings decide whether members can add custom MCP servers.
  • ChatGPT asks before each tool that acts (placing a call, answering a question, hanging up). You can approve a tool for the rest of the conversation; new conversations ask again.
  • ChatGPT checks a live call in waits of up to 25 seconds. If it stops checking, Tuvoz calls your verified phone a few seconds after the voice agent asks a question, and asks you.
  • Your sign-in stays until you disconnect it, in ChatGPT or under Connected agents in your Tuvoz dashboard.
  • Tuvoz calls US numbers only. Calls to businesses and other people go out between 9 am and 8 pm in the called number's time zone; calls to your own phone, including questions during a call, aren't limited to those hours.

FAQ

Which ChatGPT plans can add Tuvoz?
It depends on your plan and workspace settings. If chatgpt.com/plugins offers "Add custom MCP server", your account can add Tuvoz. On Business and Enterprise, an admin may need to allow it.
Do I need to paste an API key?
No. ChatGPT supports only OAuth for custom servers, so you sign in with Google on Tuvoz's site and approve ChatGPT. ChatGPT never sees your password, and you can disconnect it any time under Connected agents.
How much does it cost?
$0.12 a minute, billed per second, with a 30-second minimum per answered call leg, including calls to your own phone. You start with 15 minutes of free talk time. Free plan includes training on your calls.
What if I close the chat during a call?
The call keeps going. If the voice agent has a question and ChatGPT isn't checking in, Tuvoz calls your verified phone, asks you, and passes the answer back into the call.
Does the business know it's an AI?
Yes. Every call opens by saying it's your AI assistant calling through Tuvoz, and asks before recording. If they say no, the call ends and Tuvoz keeps nothing they said. Our AI voice provider processes their words live to run the call and may keep them for a limited time for abuse monitoring, as our Privacy Policy explains.
Does this work with ChatGPT dots?
Not yet. Dots are a separate product, and Tuvoz hasn't added support for them. See the ChatGPT dots guide for what's planned.
